What is the Resin Futurity?

The Resin Futurity is a new program designed by Sommer Prosser and Morgen Kilbourn to reward collectors who show model horse resins.  Artist Resins are hand made, hand cast,  small run collectibles that are each hand painted by independent artists.  There is no one company or producer of resins, and because of this, there is currently no official "sponsor" for this cottage industry that supports hundreds of talented artists across America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Australia.  While some manufacturers of mass produced plastic horses are able to sponsor special shows with unique awards and prizes, currently no such program exists for resins.  The Resin Futurity program is an attempt for those of us who create these one of a kind, unique art works to directly reward and thank the people who support us.

Why is it called a "futurity"?

In many real-life horse breed registries, there are programs called "futurities".  Money is raised, often by stallion owners, who typically raise money by donating breedings that are auctioned off to mare owners.  The funds are pooled together and given out as cash prizes at shows.  This model horse program is loosely based on this concept.  Artists will sell painted resins to the public, and the funds from items sold will be pooled.  Cash prizes will be given away to resin divisions at various live model horse shows across the country.  The number of shows helped will depend on how many items are donated to the Futurity each year, and how much is raised from the sale of these items.

Why cash prizes?  Why not models?

Artists have tried for years to give away models or donate paint jobs to shows.  Because each artist is limited on what they can give away, and when, the gifts to various shows are random.  This makes it hard to build a strong, steady incentive to show resin models year after year.  Instead of donating one $300 or $600 resin to one show at random, the model would be sold or auctioned off and proceeds will be distributed over several shows, enabling one donation to have a greater impact.  Under this program, it is hoped that people who show resin horses will be consistently rewarded, show after show, year after year.  The hope is that artists will finally have a way to encourage showers  to participate and directly grow this important segment of the hobby.

How are prizes awarded?

A certificate will be sent to the show.  No cash will ever be sent directly to the show holder.  Along with the certificate will be raffle tickets.  Every shower competing in the Artist Resin halter/workmanship division (this includes the resin mini division as well) is automatically given ONE raffle ticket just for entering and showing! Every resin model that places first or second in each Halter or Workmanship class is also awarded a raffle ticket along with their NAN card.  The more resins you show, the greater your odds are of winning a prize.

Judges will also be given a small number of "wild card" tickets.  These can be awarded for any reason a judge sees fit.  Example, if a class is large with many exceptional models, the judge is free to award one or more "wild card" tickets to any model they think deserves recognition.  Showers place their name on each raffle ticket, and at the end of the show, a raffle winner is drawn from the showers.  The winner is awarded the certificate and they must contact us within 30 days via email to claim their prize! Show holder and the Resin Futurity Program are not responsible for late, lost, or misdirected emails.  A prize of $100 will be distributed in the form of a money order, or deposited directly to the winner's Paypal account.

Artists may also include other prizes or goodies to be raffled off, if they choose, at their discretion.

Who chooses the shows?

Any show with a resin division is welcome to apply for the program.  Artists who donate are welcome to participate in choosing their favorite shows.  If you would like for shows near you to be sponsored by the program, encourage local artists to donate.  The wonderful thing about this program is that a certificate will be sent to the show listing actual artist names who make this award possible.  You will know who was directly responsible for bringing the cash award to your show, which is great promotion for artists.

Are there awards for China showers, Performance showers, or Custom models?

No.  This program is strictly for resin model horses showing in HALTER.  However, we highly encourage anyone who is interested in this concept to start their own independent program and copy the ideas here and apply them to their own new program specifically tailored to their interests.

Information for artists:

We are seeking artists who would like to donate to this program.  Ideally, the donation should have a value of at least $100, which is the minimum to sponsor one show.  Remember, this program allows artists to directly control their donations!  If you are able to donate an item worth several hundred dollars, you can choose what shows are awarded prizes, which can directly stimulate showing in your area.  If you are an artist who also holds Live shows, you are absolutely welcome to nominate your own show for this program.

Each certificate awarded will list artist name or names who made the award possible.  Artist names will also be listed on the Futurity web site.

Futurity Goals:

Our initial goal would be to sponsor only 10 to 15 live shows per year, while we test the program and see how it works in action.  The ultimate goal would be for artists to be able to sponsor 30 to 40 shows per year.  This would mean nearly any large show with a Resin division will have a cash award available as incentive to showers, with a sponsored show in every Region, within traveling distance of nearly any Resin shower.
